Poetry Spotlight: The Dead Wrestler Elegies by W. Todd Kaneko

The Dead Wrestler Elegies is kind of a Venn Diagram book. One of the circles is “wrestling” and the other is “poetry” and this collection sits where the overlap is.

Each poem is, as the title suggests, am elegy to a dead wrestler. For fans of wrestling these are an absolute joy to read. They are also a trip down memory lane. That’s where the other levels come into play. Lurking under the ring apron, grabbing for a chair, is Dead Wrestler Elegies theme, fathers and sons and memory.

This is a very entertaining collection. I hope that the readers in each circle won’t be put off by what’s in the other circle. Everyone should give this one try.

This is also a book as object item. It is packed with illustrations of the wrestlers.
